This programme offers professional training in counselling to participants to enable them to work as counsellors on graduation. The course reflects the ethos of the Person-Centred approach to counselling.
The programme has an integrated approach with the aim of fostering academic, professional and personal development. It follows a modular structure delivered over three years. An essential component of the training is the work with clients in a placement supported by individual and group supervision. Personal therapy, away days and residential weekends are also a feature of the programme.
The programme is accredited by the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP).
Programme Structure
* Theory and Practice of Counselling 1 (Develops knowledge of counselling theory and research)
* Ethical and Professional Practice 1 (Demonstrates how theory works in practice)
* Personal and Professional Development 1 (Facilitates learning about self in the counselling process)
* Theory and Practice of Counselling 2 (Year 2 builds on the knowledge base of Year 1)
* Ethical and Professional Practice 2 (Combination of a practice placement working with clients)
* Personal and Professional Development 2 (Further development in personal and professional awareness)
* Research Dissertation (Develops an understanding and appreciation for practitioner research)
Assessment
The course is assessed through a variety of methods which includes written assignments, tape and critique of sessions, group presentations, peer and tutor assessments, case studies, supervision and placement reports. There are no formal exams on the programme.
You are normally required to take an English Proficiency Test.
Most European Universities recognise the IELTS test.
