Location of University of Chester

A programme of advanced professional training for qualified Counsellors.

This course enables qualified Counsellors to deepen their theoretical understanding, increase their counselling competencies, develop research skills and critically reflect upon their practice in the light of contemporary counselling developments. It provides a lively, challenging and supportive learning community.


Contents

Programme Structure

The programme is modular in structure and consists of six taught modules and a research dissertation.

Core Modules

* Counsellor as Theorist
* Contemporary Counselling Issues and Debates
* Group Work
* Counselling Research Methods

Elective Modules

* Students choose two modules from a range of available electives*. Examples of elective modules include: Brief Counselling, Expressive Arts Therapies, Counselling Young People, Cognitive-Behavioural Counselling, Introduction to Supervision, Mindfulness.

*optional/elective modules are run subject to demand

Dissertation

* Students conduct original research and produce a dissertation.

Assessment

Self, peer and tutor assessment are utilised. The formal assessment for each of the taught modules varies but normally consists of a written assignment integrating theory and professional practice. There are no examinations.

IELTS

You are normally required to take an English Proficiency Test.

Most European Universities recognise the IELTS test.

Requirements

Applicants will be expected to possess:

* a Diploma in Counselling, or equivalent qualification
* relevant professional experience - a minimum of 120 hours of supervised counselling practice
* evidence of current supervised counselling practice in a paid or voluntary capacity
* an undergraduate degree ot other evidence of being able to meet the academic requirements of the programme
* applicants will also be required to attend an interview.
