Course Content

The MA in Modern and Contemporary German Studies is a taught course offering modules covering a wide variety of themes across German literature, culture, politics, historiography and linguistics.

The course includes two compulsory modules: `Critical Theory and German Studies´ and `Constructing Identities: History and Culture´, and two optional directed study
modules.

Topic areas for directed reading and research currently cover:

* Linguistics
* Literature and Culture 1750-1890
* Literature, Culture and Politics 1890-1945
* Contemporary Culture and Politics
* Critical Theory
* Film and Media Studies

Please note that all module details are subject to change.

Your studies will be supported by generic training modules in the University´s Graduate School.

Course Structure
This course can be taken full-time over 1 year (September to September) or over 2 to 3 years, part-time. You will take 4 taught modules - each assessed by a 5,000 word essay - and write a dissertation of 15,000 words on a research topic which you will negotiate with your supervisor.
The taught modules comprise one core module and one directed study module per semester.


IELTS

You are normally required to take an English Proficiency Test.

Most European Universities recognise the IELTS test.
