MATILDA is the first Joint European Degree programme in Women's and Gender History. It has been set up by a consortium of five European universities and was launched in the academic session 2008/9. The lead institution is the University of Vienna, and the other partners are The University of Nottingham, Central European University (CEU) in Budapest, the University Lumiere Lyon 2, and the Sofia University St Kliment Ohridski.
The programme of study comprises 120 ECTS (120 European credits in European Credit Transfer Scheme =240 UK credits) spread over two years of study. Students can expect to study in at least two different countries over the course of four semesters, typically moving to a second institution for one or two semesters after one year in their start university. There will also be a summer intensive programme for all students on the programme taught by staff drawn from all five institutions.
