All the central aspects of European Union Law are covered in this programme: institutional law, judicial protection, substantive law (internal market), environmental law, competition law, external relations law and enlargement, labour law, company law, tax law and the European protection of human rights.
The Groningen programme in European Law is anchored in the Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence at Groningen, recognized by the European Commission. Several of the instructors of the programme currently work or have worked within the European Institutions. Therefore you will be taught by leading specialists in European Law.
A friendly international atmosphere and an international staff offer an excellent basis for a rewarding and stimulating year in an outwardlooking and research-led environment.

All programmes consist of six courses (minimum), a seminar and the writing of a thesis.
They are one-year full-time programmes and the language of instruction and examination is English. The academic year in Groningen runs from the first week of September to the end of August and is divided into two terms (semesters) followed by periods of examinations.

You are normally required to take an English Proficiency Test.
Most European Universities recognise the IELTS test.

* test of proficiency in English* (TOEFL score 580/237/92, IELTS test 6.5 or a Cambridge Certificate of Advanced English or of Proficiency in English (CAE/CPE); all sections of both TOEFL and IELTS have to be sufficient (TOEFL 55, 21 or 21/20; IELTS 6.0, including a TWE of 4.5 with the PBT & CPT-TOEFL test!!)
* 2 academic references (including their signatures, printed on official university paper)
* motivation letter (no more than 650 words)
* curriculum vitae (CV)
* 2 passport-photographs
* copy of your passport (picture page)
* scholarship award letter (if applicable)
