Software systems play an important, although often invisible, role in society. For example in the information systems of banks and insurance companies, in the embedded software in a television or a copier, in Internet search engines or in the software that controls the electricity grid. There is a huge demand for efficient and reliable software systems. The complexity of many of these systems is an important and intriguing problem, especially in the common situation of multiple communicating systems operating in parallel.
Cooperation with Manipal University
The Department of Mathematics and Computer Science also offers a dual degree program in cooperation with the Manipal University in India. The program is a two-year program. Students follow one year of the program at Manipal University and one year at Eindhoven University of Technology. Students who succesfully complete the program receive the degree of both universities.
The emphasis in the Master´s degree program in Computer Science and Engineering is placed on the design of highquality software. During the Master´s program you will learn to combine a scientific attitude with an engineer´s approach. Defining reliable protocols for the behavior of complex software systems requires a knowledge of algorithms, performance, hardware, and design and documentation methods.
You will also need an understanding of the variability and maintainability of these protocols. All these aspects can be found in the compulsory part of the Master´s program, which consists of three elements. In Theory you will work on programming and modal logic, proving with computer assistance and information security. System engineering focuses on software architecting, software testing, and requirement analysis, design and verification. And finally Program design consists of intelligent systems, real-time architectures and probabilistic algorithms.
The Master's degree program Computer Science and Engineering lasts two years. Each year consists of 60 ECTS (European Credit Transfer System).
These credit points are subdivided as follows:
First year
- Compulsory courses (67%)
- Electives (33%)
- possibly including an internship of max. 15%
Second year
- Electives (33%)
- possibly including an internship of max. 15%
- Final project (67%)
Compulsory courses
The compulsory courses are taken from the fields of:
- Theory: Programming and modal logic, proving with computer assistance, information security
- Systems engineering: Software architecting, software testing, requirement analysis, design and verification.
- Program design: Real-time architectures, probabilistic algorithms, intelligent systems.
Furthermore, the student chooses one course from a list of general academic subjects.
Specializations * Algorithms
* Formal methods
* Information Systems
* Databases and Hypermedi
* Architecture of Information Systems
* Design and Analysis of Systems
* System Architecture and Networks
* Software Engineering and Technology
* Visualization
Internship opportunities
In the elective part of the program you can include an internship with a maximum of 20 ECTS.
You are normally required to take an English Proficiency Test if you come from a non-English speaking country. Most European Universities recognise the IELTS test. More information
The general requirements for admission to the TU/e Master's of Science programs are:
* You must have a relevant Bachelor´s degree (or equivalent), based on a program of sufficient academic level and quality to enable you to complete the TU/e Master´s degree program to which you wish to be admitted.
* You must be able to demonstrate sufficient command of the language in which the program is taught.
* To prove sufficient command of the English language you should submit an Academic IELTS or TOEFL test. For the scores or exemptions, you can contact the admissions office (admissions@remove-this.tue.nl).
* There may be additional specific requirements for specific programs, also depending on the nature of your prior education.
