Syllabus
Our program is designed by investment bankers meaning that it is closely related to the real needs of the industry. We also cover new concepts such as Islamic finance and behavioral finance, thought-provoking subjects which are demanded in today’s job market. One of the most stimulating parts of the program is during the Private Equity course, where students are required to look for a company that is on sale and then prepare a leveraged acquisition and present the proposal to a private equity company. Our syllabus has a great conceptual mixture with real world events, meaning that you will graduate ready to deal with all of the industry’s challenges.

The Master in Advanced Finance affords up-to-the minute knowledge in the most innovative areas of finance such as securization, swaps, commodities, equity derivatives, leveraged buy-outs, geopolitics, behavioural finance or value at risk or Islamic finance. Participants receive an education that can play a pivotal role in increasing candidate appeal in recruitment process for tier I financial institutions like investment banks, hedge funds and private equity firms.
The courses for each area will follow a progressive approach, starting from the basics and building up in terms of complexity and sophistication to reach the most advanced courses taught during the third period. The structure has also been designed to enable participants to prepare for interviews with recruiters, which could start as early as autumn.

Economics for Markets
Practical macro information that is key for financial markets, including how macro information should be read in order to have an informed opinion of where to invest, and recent macro developments that will shape the world in this century, such as the rise of China or the impact of globalization.
Private equity and Financial Entrepreneurship

Applied knowledge for the financial manager
Different key concepts that serve as basic tools for the successful financier, including negotiation, presentation skills or building of financial models using excel.
Open sessions
1.5 hour conferences given by top level professionals from the finance industry on the most relevant issues in finance today. Past speakers include three managing directors from UBS, an executive director of Lehman Brothers, the director of IE´s Centre for Advanced Finance, or the chief investment strategist of BBVA´s pension funds. Open sessions include fields like weather derivatives, private equity, the future of the M&A market or financial engineering. IE alumni working in the field of finance are invited to these sessions to foster networking.

* A Bachelor's degree at an accredited college/university (or equivalent).
* GMAT or GRE exam. The test result from this exam is a prerequisite for admission.
* An English language certificate is required for all non-native English-speaking applicants (TOEFL of a minimum score of 100 ibt, 250 computer-based or 600. 800 TOEIC, 7.5 IELTS or Cambridge Advanced). This requirement does not apply if you can demonstrate one of the following: * Two years work experience in an English speaking country.
* Undergraduate degree completed in English.
* A complete application for evaluation by the Admissions Committee, including all supporting documents.
