Significant opportunities in sport event management, sports broadcasting/media, sport sponsorship and other commercial developments are evident in emerging economies such as China, India and South Africa.
The International Sport Management MBA is a specialist programme designed for individuals seeking a career or career advancement in the rapidly expanding sports industry.

* Management in the voluntary sector at National or International Governing Body level

As part of the International Sport Management MBA students have the option of enrolling on the internship programme.

This module normally lasts between 8-12 weeks and provides students with an opportunity to undertake a workplace project on behalf of an organisation.

Coventry University Business School works closely with companies across the UK and Europe to offer a wide variety of internships.

Eligibility

Students must successfully meet the following assessment criteria:

* Academic - successful completion of all Semester 1 modules including research methods at the first attempt
* CV Short listing - Submit a CV, which will be used for competitive short listing by the internship panel.
Presentation - prepare and successfully deliver a formal presentation
* Interview- interview with the university internship panel

Assessment

After completing the Internship, you are required to write an extensive report based on the managerial and educational experience derived from the internship itself and present your findings to both the employers and academic staff.


Contents

The course content is built upon basic managerial principles and applied research, explored in a variety of contexts and focusing on the commercialisation of the sport product at amateur and professional levels.
You will follow a programme of modules which focus on essential business functions and skills such as financial analysis,marketing, strategic management and people management. You will also engage in sport specific study to enable the development of knowledge and skills in sports law, sport marketing and sponsorship, sports broadcasting, sport organisations, event planning/management and impacts assessment, and managing sport operations in large scale facilities.

Students on the MBA International Sport Management programme will be required to complete 180 credits over three semesters. Students will also be expected to undertake a sport dissertation or company internship report.
The programme is delivered both on a full-time basis over a 12-month duration and for 24 months on a part-time basis. Students on both routes will be expected to attend lectures, workshops and study sessions on location at Coventry University from September to June.

The MBA International Sport Management programme is delivered via a combination of lectures, seminars/workshops and online/virtual communication. Students are encouraged into independent study and research and are assessed through a variety of coursework and exams which require demonstration of their knowledge of theory and its practical application.

Requirements

Applicants must normally hold a good honours degree in a relevant academic discipline and at least two years work experience after completing their undergraduate degree programme.

The course is conducted in English and so those applicants whose first language is not English are normally required to hold IELTS 6.5 or equivalent.
