The debate over the science of climate has moved on from whether or not it is happening to what action we need to take.
The Climate and Environmental Change MSc degree has been developed in response to mounting scientific evidence and new legislative frameworks for tackling climate change.
Together with vocational and practical skills this course is particularly relevant for those wishing to develop and formalise their knowledge of environmental change.

Why study Climate and Environmental Change:

* Learn about contemporary debates in the field of climate change
* The threat from climate change is perhaps the greatest challenge facing our world
* The UK Climate Change bill will create a strong new legal framework that will underpin the UK’s contribution to tackling climate change
* Without decisive and urgent action, it has the potential to be an economic disaster and an environmental catastrophe
* It has a flexible structure and range of options make it suitable for students from diverse background ranging from the pure sciences, through geography and the earth and environmental sciences, to the social sciences

The course will develop the generic and vocational skills of students working or destined for local government, the geosciences (including geohazard and geotechical analysis), Carbon Management, renewable energy and sustainability.
The course is designed for current practitioners wishing to further develop and formalise their knowledge of the climate change debate, as well as those from associated disciplines wishing to develop new career paths.

Contents

Indicative Course Content

The course concentrates on developing knowledge and practical skills in:

* Environmental Reconstruction
* Geographical Information Systems (GIS) and remote sensing
* Energy and Carbon Management
* Corporate Risk

The course is aimed at the domestic, European and World markets to provide a clear, credible and long-term domestic framework for understanding and tackling climate change, whilst at the same time allowing Coventry University to demonstrate strong leadership in the subject area.
There is an emphasis on environmental reconstruction as a means of providing long-term information on climate change, and secondly, the use of technologies such as Geographical Information Systems (GIS), remote sensing, and modelling as predictive and management tools for climate change science.
The course does, however, reach beyond the science and addresses the issues of corporate risk and governmental legislation, as an increasingly important aspect of our national response will focus on the needs and skills of practitioners to build sustainable businesses and communities.
