Location of Newcastle University

You take compulsory modules (70 credits) covering: information skills; thinking about research; qualitative and quantitative methodology in the social sciences; research methods and project management; dissertation preparation. You also select optional modules (50 credits) from topics such as: rural development work placement; essentials of food marketing; the contested environment; researching the food consumer; and the contemporary countryside. You also complete a dissertation (60 credits), which could be a desk-based analysis, or a study involving fieldwork or case studies.

Requirements

A first-class (1st) or upper-second-class (2.1) Honours degree, preferably in the social or environmental sciences. Applicants from other backgrounds are welcome, but are encouraged to discuss their application with the Degree Programme Director, Dr Andrew Donaldson, in the first instance. Applicants whose first language is not English require IELTS 6.5, TOEFL 90 (Internet-based) or 577 (paper-based) or equivalent.
