For the award of MSc you complete nine modules (135 credits) and an industrial project (45 credits). For the award of the Diploma you complete eight modules (120 credits). Individual modules may also be taken on a stand-alone basis for CPD purposes.
The modules available are: advanced process automation; advanced process control; batch processing and automation; chemical engineering principles; classical control systems design; control schemes and strategies; control systems technology; dynamics and control of distillation columns; fuzzy, neural and expert systems; instrumentation and measurement; management of automation projects; mathematics and Matlab; modelling and simulation; modern and control systems design; optimisation and scheduling; process analytical technology.
Each module consists of one week’s intensive tuition at the University, an assignment equivalent to another week’s work completed over the following two months, and concludes with a written examination. Candidates typically take two to three modules per year.

MSc – a minimum of a second-class (2.2) Honours degree (for example BEng or BSc), or equivalent, in an appropriate subject; full-time employment by a company within the chemical or process industry sector.
Diploma – entry requirements are as for the MSc except that non-graduates (such as holders of HND or HNC qualifications) with significant and relevant industrial experience may be registered. Candidates registered for the Diploma who have satisfactorily completed the assessments of four modules at MSc standard may have their registrations transferred to the MSc.
Applicants whose first language is not English require IELTS 6.5, or equivalent.
