This degree programme is recognised by the Joint Board of Moderators (ICE, IStructE, CIHT, IHE) as meeting requirements for Further Learning for a Chartered Engineer (CEng) for candidates who have already acquired an Accredited CEng (Partial) BEng (Hons) or an Accredited IEng (Full) BEng/BSc (Hons) undergraduate first degree. The programme is also accredited by the Geological Society (GeolSoc).

The MSc comprises a 100-credit taught component and an 80-credit consultancy project. Compulsory modules (80 credits), taught as week or two week long blocks, typically include: the environment business; research methods; aqueous geochemistry; introduction to microbiology, microbial physiology and biogeochemistry; sources and fate of pollutants; analytical geochemistry 1 and 2.

Two optional technical modules (10 credits each) are then taken from a list which may include: groundwater assessment; microbial transformations of organic pollutants; contaminated land. The consultancy project enables you to gain experience of undertaking an individual research project, the aims of which are identified through liaison with a real-world client. The outcomes of the project are delivered in a substantial report, which is designed to meet the client’s needs.
