This degree programme is recognised by the Joint Board of Moderators (ICE, IStructE, CIHT, IHE) as meeting requirements for Further Learning for a Chartered Engineer (CEng) for candidates who have already acquired an Accredited CEng (Partial) BEng (Hons) or an Accredited IEng (Full) BEng/BSc (Hons) undergraduate first degree. The programme is also accredited by the Chartered Institution of Water and Environmental Management (CIWEM) and the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS).
Students complete taught modules (100 credits), followed by a research dissertation project (80 credits). Compulsory taught modules include: core concepts in environmental engineering; air pollution; introduction to practical hydraulics; solid waste management; water supply and treatment; environmental engineering for developing countries. Optional modules available include: contaminated land; remediation engineering for polluted groundwaters; and engineering biology through molecular microbial ecology. Dissertation projects may be carried out in our own well-equipped laboratories, in UK field sites, in industry or overseas.

A minimum of a second-class (2.2) Honours degree, or an international equivalent, in an engineering or science subject. Other qualifications or relevant professional experience will also be considered. Applicants whose first language is not English normally require IELTS 6.5, TOEFL 90 (Internet-based) or 577 (paper-based), or equivalent.
