This degree programme is recognised by the Joint Board of Moderators (ICE, IStructE, CIHT, IHE) as meeting requirements for Further Learning for a Chartered Engineer (CEng) for candidates who have already acquired an Accredited CEng (Partial) BEng (Hons) or an Accredited IEng (Full) BEng/BSc (Hons) undergraduate first degree. The programme is also accredited by the Chartered Institution of Water and Environmental Management (CIWEM) and the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS).
The programme begins with field visits to case studies in the north of England; these provide the stimulus and context for the formal teaching as well as an informal setting in which to get to know staff and fellow students.
You complete 100 credits of compulsory taught modules followed by a research project written up as a dissertation (80 credits). The compulsory modules may include: hydrosystems processes and management; hydrosystems modelling; climate change - earth system, future scenarios and threats; quantitative methods for engineering; modelling of floods; computational hydraulics; groundwater modelling; integrated river basin management; hydroinformatic systems development. A full range of teaching methods is employed. Assessment is by formal written examinations, course work, a dissertation, and a poster presentation. Dissertation projects are often undertaken in collaboration with industry.
