Ten taught modules (100 credits) are chosen, comprising transport modules from the School of Civil Engineering and Geosciences. You may also be permitted to choose modules from other subject areas. You must also undertake a research project written up as a dissertation (80 credits).
Modules include: quantitative methods; transport policy in practice; intelligent transport systems and e-services; transport modelling; road safety; public inquiry into a transport scheme; characteristics of public transport systems; economic and environmental appraisal of transport activities; transport planning for sustainable development.
The programme includes a study tour to Europe to examine the different approaches to transport management in other countries, to see the operation of various public transport systems and to study the principles behind advanced transport planning software.

Requirements
Normally, a minimum of a second-class(2.2) Honours degree in a relevant discipline or an international equivalent. Applicants whose first language is not English normally require IELTS 6.5, TOEFL 90 (Internet-based) or 577 (paper-based), or equivalent.

Accreditation
This degree programme is recognised by the Joint Board of Moderators (ICE, IStructE, CIHT, IHE) as meeting requirements for Further Learning for a Chartered Engineer (CEng) for candidates who have already acquired an Accredited CEng (Partial) BEng (Hons) or an Accredited IEng (Full) BEng/BSc (Hons) undergraduate first degree. The programme is also accredited by the Chartered Institution of Water and Environmental Management (CIWEM) and the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS). The degree also meets the academic requirements for the Transport Planning Professional Qualification.
