This degree programme is recognised by the Joint Board of Moderators (ICE, IStructE, CIHT, IHE) as meeting requirements for Further Learning for a Chartered Engineer (CEng) for candidates who have already acquired an Accredited CEng (Partial) BEng (Hons) or an Accredited IEng (Full) BEng/BSc (Hons) undergraduate first degree. The programme is also accredited by the Chartered Institution of Water and Environmental Management (CIWEM) and the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS).

This flexible learning programme is designed to provide training for recent graduates in full-time employment in industry.

For the MSc you take a selection of taught modules (100 credits) and a work-based dissertation (80 credits). Compulsory modules (90 credits) may include: quantitative methods for engineering; hydrosystems processes and management; climate change – earth system, future scenarios and threats; hydrosystems modelling; modelling of floods; options for flood risk management; real-time flood forecasting and warning systems; flood management - governance, planning and project appraisal. You then choose another module (10 credits) from either integrated river basin management or climate change - vulnerability, impacts and adaptation.

For the Diploma you take a selection of taught modules (80 credits) and a work-based dissertation (40 credits). Assessment is by formal written examinations, coursework, a dissertation (often in collaboration with industry) and a poster presentation.

Requirements

A second-class (2.2) Honours degree in a relevant science or engineering subject or an international equivalent. Proficiency in mathematics (UK A level or its equivalent) is normally required. Candidates who do not have A level (or equivalent) in mathematics will have their mathematical knowledge assessed prior to acceptance. Other equivalent qualifications and/or relevant industrial experience will be considered for entry. Applicants whose first language is not English require IELTS 6.5, TOEFL 90 (Internet-based) or 577 (paper-based), or equivalent.
