This degree programme is recognised by the Joint Board of Moderators (ICE, IStructE, CIHT, IHE) as meeting requirements for Further Learning for a Chartered Engineer (CEng) for candidates who have already acquired an Accredited CEng (Partial) BEng (Hons) or an Accredited IEng (Full) BEng/BSc (Hons) undergraduate first degree. The programme is also accredited by the Chartered Institution of Water and Environmental Management (CIWEM) and the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS).
This programme offers a joint degree between five European universities as a part of the Erasmus Mundus co-operation and mobility programme. The partner universities are: Newcastle University (UK); University of Nice-Sophia Antipolis (France); Brandenburg University of Technology at Cottbus (Germany); Budapest University of Technology and Economics (Hungary); Technical University of Catalonia (Spain). You take modules to a total of 120 ECTS credits, including 36 ECTS credits at a different institution from your home institution. The programme spans four semesters over two years. Semester 1 (studied at any partner university except Newcastle) provides an introduction and brings students to a common level of ability in key technical areas. Semester 2 (at Newcastle) concerns the acquisition and use of hydroinformatic concepts, methods and tools. Semester 3 (at all partner universities except Newcastle) allows for thematic specialisation including: software engineering and modelling (Cottbus); inland waters management (Budapest); decision support systems (Catalonia); and urban waters management (Nice). In Semester 4 (at all partners) you take either a research development project or professional practice in industry. Assessment is by course work, examinations and a dissertation.

A minimum of an upper-second-class (2.1) Honours degree, or an international equivalent, in one of the following: engineering (any branch); environmental sciences; physics; computing science; geography; mathematics; chemistry; geology or a similar subject. Applicants whose first language is not English require IELTS 6.5, TOEFL 90 (Internet-based) or 577 (paper-based), or equivalent. A basic knowledge of one of the other languages (German, French, Spanish, Hungarian) is also required.
