Why do asthmatic women develop other symptoms than men? How do stem cells develop into blood? What is the role of the immune system in cancer development? If you are curious for these answers, you might be interested in joining our Top Master´s programme in Medical and Pharmaceutical Drug Innovation (Molecular Medicine). This two-year programme offers an excellent preparation for a research career in molecular medicine and drug innovation.

The Top Master´s programme aims to guide researchers of tomorrow into the scientific world of today. Science of the future is multidisciplinary and international, and requires a broad understanding of multiple concepts and technological approaches. Our objective is the education of young scientists in the area of molecular medicine, drug target finding and drug development.

The programme will prepare you for a research career that you will design yourself. Only the best students from all over the world are admitted. In return, you will be coached by the best scientists of our university. Because you work and study in small groups, we can offer you an intensive and highly interactive training programme. By participating in research projects that appeal to you, you will gradually choose the field of science in which you want to excel. If you successfully graduate from this programme, you will be asked to design your own research plans and submit these as a PhD project. If your proposal is awarded, you will be embedded in one of the excellent research groups within our university for a period of four years. What better chance can be offered to shape your own future?

After finishing the Top Master´s programme you are fully equipped to continue as a PhD-student in international university research programmes. So far all graduates have continued their research activities in PhD projects.

Contents

The goal of the two year master of science in MPS is to obtain knowledge, skills and insight in certain areas in medical pharmaceutical sciences as a good preparation for a PhD programme and for independently practice of this science in a future job.
In at least one of the research areas an theoretical, practical overview will be obtained and therefore the programme is directed to literature study, practical research, reporting. Special attention is given towards research design, creative solving scientific, complex, multidisciplinary problems. This often means working in teams with experts in different research disciplines.

Two tracks

The two year programme can either be totally devoted to research (P-specialisation) or be orientated to management and policy next to research (M-specialisation). In the latter (M), a number of courses are open for Dutch speaking students only and is therefore not described in english.

Track Research

The programme of the research specialisation (P-track) takes 2 years (=120 EC = 4 semesters) and is organised as follows:

Courses

  • Masterclass Medical Pharmaceutical Sciences3 EC
  • Colloquium 5 EC
  • Research project (Major) 40-54 EC
  • Literature study 5 EC
  • Research project (Minor) 30 EC
  • Electives 23-37 EC

Study co-ordinators

The subjects of courses and the research periods have to be established together with a study co-ordinator (mentor) of one of the 9 divisions of the research school GUIDE. In general, the major and the minor has to be done in two different GUIDE divisions.

You are normally required to take an English Proficiency Test if you come from a non-English speaking country.

Most European Universities recognise the IELTS test.
