You take five compulsory modules (75 credits), two optional modules (30 credits), coursework (15 credits) and an individual project with dissertation (60 credits). Compulsory modules cover: advanced VLSI design; systems-on-chip test strategies; reconfigurable hardware design; semiconductor device fabrication; and semiconductor electronic devices. Optional modules may include: mobile and cellular communications; signal processing and estimation; optoelectronics; and power electronics.
Assessment is by written examination at the end of each semester, coursework, and a project and dissertation conducted in association with one of the School’s research groups.

Normally a second-class (2.2) BEng Honours degree, or equivalent, in electrical and electronic engineering, electronic communications, computer engineering or a related subject. Applicants whose first language is not English require IELTS 6.0, TOEFL 79 (Internet-based) or 550 (paper-based), or equivalent.
