Location of Newcastle University

You take a selection of taught modules (100 credits) and undertake a research project and dissertation (80 credits). Compulsory modules (70 credits) cover: marine machinery systems; marine electrical power systems; marine electric propulsion; ship propulsion; advanced offshore design; research skills; marine power transmission. You also select optional modules (30 credits) from a list that may include: dynamics of offshore installations; offshore engineering applications; marine electro-technology; marine management technology; optimal marine design; surveying ships and offshore installations.

The programme is also available with a Preliminary Year, which is designed for students who have a qualification from a technical college rather than an Honours degree. Typically, you select one module (20 credits) from: marine engineering design; marine design; offshore design; small craft design. You also take optional modules (70 credits) and complete a project and report (30 credits).

Requirements

Normally an upper-second class (2.1) Honours degree, or equivalent, in engineering or another relevant subject. Applicants whose first language is not English require IELTS 6.5, TOEFL 90 (Internet-based), 577 (paper-based) or equivalent.
