Location of Newcastle University

You take a selection of taught modules (100 credits) and undertake a research project and dissertation (80 credits). Compulsory modules (60 credits) may include: marine electro-technology; marine electrical power systems; marine electric propulsion; marine machinery systems; ship propulsion; data analysis and interpretation; and research skills.

Optional modules (40 credits) are selected from a list that typically includes: marine production technology; ship performance at sea; optimal marine design; marine management technology; surveying ships and offshore installations; marine power transmission. This programme is also available with a Preliminary Year, which is designed for students who have a qualification from a technical college rather than an Honours degree. Typically, you select one module (20 credits) from: marine engineering design; marine design; offshore design; small craft design. You also take 70 credits of optional modules and complete a project and report (30 credits).

Requirements

Normally an upper-second class (2.1) Honours degree, or equivalent, in engineering or another relevant subject. Applicants whose first language is not English require IELTS 6.5, TOEFL 90 (Internet-based), 577 (paper-based) or 233 (computer-based), or equivalent.
