You take a selection of taught modules (100 credits) and a research project and dissertation (80 credits). Compulsory modules (90 credits) may include: corrosion and corrosion control; structural response analysis; dynamics of offshore installations; theory of plates and grillages; fundamentals of pipeline engineering; pipeline structural analysis; optimal marine design; and research skills. You also select one optional module (10 credits) from a list that typically includes: design and construction and marine management technology II.
The programme is also available with a Preliminary Year, which is designed for students who have a qualification from a technical college rather than an Honours degree. Typically, you select one module (20 credits) from: marine engineering design; marine design; offshore design; and small craft design. You also take optional modules (70 credits) and complete a project and report (30 credits).
