You take a selection of taught modules (100 credits) and undertake a dissertation (80 credits). Compulsory modules (90 credits) typically include: marine transport and economics; research skills; design and analysis of marine transport and logistics systems; shipping market analysis and risk management; marine liability insurance and law; the international safety management (ISM) code; marine transport business; maritime logistics and port management, management and communications. You also select one optional module (10 credits) from other marine and management modules that may include: supply chain management; marine production technology; surveying ships and offshore structures; and maritime law.

Normally an upper-second-class (2.1) Honours degree, or equivalent, in engineering, economics or another relevant subject. Relevant seafaring qualifications are also accepted (Class 1 Certificate of Competency - Deck or Engine). Applicants whose first language is not English require IELTS 6.5, TOEFL 90 (Internet-based) or 577 (paper-based), or equivalent.
