For the MSc you take compulsory modules (120 credits) and a research project and dissertation (60 credits).

Compulsory modules typically include: fundamentals of pipeline engineering; materials and fabrication; corrosion and corrosion control; civil and geotechnical aspects of pipeline engineering; pipeline structural analysis; safety, risk and environmental management; dynamics of offshore installations; hydrocarbon production and process engineering; design and construction; asset management; and elements of economics and business finance.

For the PGDip you undertake 120 credits including 60 credits of compulsory modules. These modules typically include: fundamental of pipeline engineering; pipeline structural analysis; and a pipeline engineering project. You also take optional modules to a value of 60 credits from the following: safety, risk and environmental management; hydrocarbon production and process engineering; materials and fabrication; corrosion and corrosion control; dynamics of offshore installations; design and construction; asset management; elements of economic and business finance; and civil and geotechnical aspects of pipeline engineering.

For the PGCert you undertake 60 credits, including 30 credits of optional modules. These modules typically include: fundamental of pipeline engineering; and pipeline structural analysis. You also take optional modules to a value of 30 credits from the following: safety, risk and environmental management; hydrocarbon production and process engineering; materials and fabrication; corrosion and corrosion control; dynamics of offshore installations; design and construction; asset management; elements of economic and business finance; and civil and geotechnical aspects of pipeline engineering.

The programme is also available with a Preliminary Year, which is designed for students who have a qualification from a technical college rather than an Honours degree. Typically, you select one module (20 credits) from: marine engineering design; marine design; offshore design; and small craft design. You also take optional modules (70 modules) and complete a project and report (30 credits).

Requirements

Normally an upper-second class (2.1) Honours degree, or equivalent, in engineering or another relevant subject. Applicants whose first language is not English require IELTS 6.5, TOEFL 90 (Internet-based) or 577 (paper-based), or equivalent.
