You take a selection of taught modules (120 credits) and complete an individual project in mechanical and systems engineering (60 credits). Compulsory modules typically include: computational modelling; robotics; advanced materials and processes; dynamics and control; bioengineering; and joining technology. There is wide scope in the choice of topics for individual projects, and there are often opportunities for project work to be undertaken in collaboration with industry.
The taught component of the programme makes use of a combination of lectures, tutorials and seminars, and assessment is by written examination and in-course assessed work. The project is assessed by dissertation.
Compulsory modules:
CME8042 Advanced Materials and Processes
CME8050 Joining Technology
ENG3002 The Finite Element Method
ENG8002 Numerical Methods and Analysis with Applications
MEC3014 Computational Modelling
MEC8003 Dynamics and Control
MEC8007 Robotics
MEC8011 Methods in Industrial Research and Development
MEC8017 Bioengineering
MEC8095 MSc Project: Mechanical and Systems Engineering
Candidates must also take:
INU8001 Writing Dissertations in Science and Engineering
Or
MEC8031 Critical Analysis and Communication of Research
