Throughout the programme three interconnecting areas of digital architecture are examined in order to develop a strong understanding of the theory base as well as practical experience and skills in the use, customisation and development of information and communication technologies. The areas of study are: computer-based modelling and visualisation; computer-based simulations; and human-computer interaction and communication in pervasive computing contexts.

Compulsory modules (100 credits) typically cover: architecture in the information age; emergent digital design methods; 3D modelling and visualisation; interactive space design; guided specialist study; research methods. Finally you complete an individual research project (80 credits).

Requirements

An upper-second-class (2.1) Honours degree or equivalent, preferably in a design-related or ICT subject. A portfolio of design work may also be required. A degree in architecture is not a prerequisite for entrance to this programme. Candidates with non-traditional qualifications and/or significant work experience in the field should contact the School for further advice.

Applicants whose first language is not English require IELTS 6.5, TOEFL 90 (Internet-based) or 577 (paper-based), or equivalent. Applicants whose IELTS score is between 6.0 and 6.5, or equivalent, at the time of application must complete a pre-sessional course at INTO Newcastle University before the programme begins.
