Through following this course, you will develop advanced knowledge and understanding of theoretical and empirical issues in criminology, with reference to explanations of criminal behaviour and theories and examples surrounding the control of crime.
You will develop advanced critical skills in research methods and methodology, as well as high-level communication skills and you will enhance your personal and professional development at postgraduate level.
This course gives you the opportunity to further develop your understanding and awareness of a wide range of crime related issues. The aim is to build on the knowledge of society that you already have through your previous studies and/or professional experiences.
Many prospects exist within the criminal justice system (including probation) and the voluntary sector.
The course will give you the opportunity to study modules on:
* Explanations of criminal behaviour
* The punishment and control of crime
* Policy and practice within the criminal justice system
* The management of violent and oppressive conduct
* How to carry out your own criminal research
The course also offers the opportunity to develop your transferable skills, including high-level communication skills, and critical and analyitical thinking.
You can study this course full-time over one year, or as a part-time course over two years. A postgraduate certificate and diploma are also available, as well as the MA level. Part-time study normally requires you to attend the University for the equivalent of one afternoon and one evening per week. Continuing Professional Development (CDP) opportunities are available in this area.
You are normally required to take an English Proficiency Test.
