Acupuncture is the art of using needle therapy to alleviate medical conditions. This ancient practice is also commonly used in modern physiotherapy and the MSc, Acupuncture in Health Care, will further your understanding of both modern and traditional theories.
This part time programme has been designed to meet the needs of health professionals and will develop your diagnostic and practical skills for the treatment of a wide range of musculo-skeletal and systemic disorders.
The course has been designed to encourage students to study for a single year to obtain the postgraduate certificate in Acupuncture in Health Care.
Course aims
* Extend your knowledge as a professional expert in acupuncture
* One of only a few Acupuncture courses at Masters Level in the UK
* Designed specifically for practitioners in the NHS requiring a solid evidence base
Your future
Completing this course will allow you to practice acupuncture fully within your profession and apply for clinical specialist positions where available.
This certificate comprises three 20 credit modules, the first of which, Acupuncture for Pain Relief M54PH, is accredited by the AACP as the Acupuncture Foundation training for physiotherapists. The other two modules, Extending Acupuncture in Practice M55PH and Advanced Acupuncture M56PH combine to give a thorough grounding in the science, art and clinical practice of this intervention.
The course has a substantial practical element, integrating a critical approach to the current research with clinical practice.
The new provision offers an initial postgraduate certificate, Acupuncture in Health Care which can be followed by a Diploma, comprising two research modules and an optional M level module taken from the Physiotherapy list. We would hope students would continue to the Dissertation in the third year to gain to full MSc but recognise that the commitment of time and money may not suit everybody in the current financial climate.
Teaching will usually be over four long weekends each year (16 days total) Attendance on the induction day in September will also be required.
