Accredited by the Association of MBAs (AMBA), the programme has been ranked among the world’s top 100 MBA programmes by the Economist Intelligence Unit 2009. The programme focuses on issues such as: globalisation; organisational transformation and corporate governance; technological innovation, e-business, entrepreneurship and information management.
The design of the Newcastle MBA is underpinned by the increasing demand of professional managers to enhance their skills and knowledge to cope with the ever-changing global business environment. The MBA programmes are 'post-experience programmes', suitable for those with a significant degree of management work experience already and who are seeking to develop their career into more senior positions.
This MBA aims to advance the knowledge and practice of management through a `real-world´ learning environment, structured around a vigorous analysis of organisational practice and informed by leading-edge research.
An MBA is of benefit if you:
* are currently a specialist who wants to change fields, eg an IT manager who wants to become a managing director; or a Marketing manager who wants to become the Director of the company;
* want to be a generalist manager or management consultant - it gives breadth over depth of knowledge, and gives graduates an integrated and strategic view of how all the different aspects of a business hang together and the challenges facing functional managers within an organization.
The programme comprises compulsory modules (70 credits), optional modules (60 credits) and a research dissertation (50 credits). Compulsory modules typically include: the global business environment; managing people and organisations; developing and implementing corporate strategy; leading change; operations management; strategic marketing; managing information; and accounting and finance. You also select optional modules from a range of specialised areas such as: business in China; exploring e-business; international marketing; finance and investment; international entrepreneurship; service management; business support in a practical setting; introduction to small business.
Students also develop their ‘soft skills’ through the personal and professional development module, which runs through semesters one and two and are provided the opportunity to engage with real businesses via the ‘Live’ management consultancy project.
Executive part-time students attend seven three-day blocks in Year 1 and seven three-day blocks in Year 2; these include an international management consultancy trip in Year 2.
You are normally required to take an English Proficiency Test.
Most European Universities recognise the IELTS test.
Take testThe MBA is only for professionals who have significant post-graduation work experience. You must have a minimum of three years’ full-time work experience and an upper-second-class Honours degree or international equivalent. Applicants whose first language is not English require IELTS 6.5 or equivalent, with no less than 6.0 in any element. Interviews (telephone or in person), will form a significant part of the applications process.
