The MA programme in Higher Education is particularly targeted at colleagues working in higher and further education and related areas e.g. lecturers/teachers, administrators, those with education/training roles and those who support students' and staff learning.
It offers the opportunity for participants to enhance their qualifications, develop their research profile and integrate their studies with their work.
* A three stage 'qualification ladder' which enables you to join or leave at the most appropriate point for you - PG Certificate, PG Diploma or MA
* Provides further understanding of learning and teaching processes and their management, by the application of theory to practice
* The programme has five pathways allowing you to focus your studies around an area or topic of personal interest
* Pathways are: Education (generic programme), Educational Leadership, Higher Education, Learning and Technology and Professional Learning
* A flexible, blended learning programme which features face to face and supported on-line learning, including two residential/study blocks each year
* Transfer and use the credits you have gained on the Masters programme as a foundation for undertaking the EdD
* Assessments which enable you to utilise your own professional experience and work-related interests
* Share ideas and issues with other participants, scope for networking and group-based learning
* Commencing in September or March each year
The MA in Education provides a progression route from Postgraduate Certificates in Higher Education or similar qualifications. It aims to support individual career development, including individuals aspiring to leadership positions.
It provides flexible CPD opportunities for staff and supports capacity building in pedagogical research. Colleagues will be able to keep up to date with CPD needs arising both from their pedagogic practice, and their subject or discipline area.
The programme offers a flexible, supportive structure for learning and achievement by using blended learning, a work-related focus and two intensive residential/study blocks each year.
It is designed to be directly relevant to the work of participants, enabling them to gain credit for their existing knowledge and skills and to develop them further. In addition it aims to provide a further understanding of learning and teaching processes and their management, by the application of theory to practice.
The programme incorporates two three-day residential/study blocks per year which are normally held in September and March. These include seminars, lectures, group-based learning and individual tutorials/supervision meetings as/where appropriate involving high levels of participant interaction. Attendance at these study blocks is mandatory, unless you have applied for and been granted Accreditation of Prior Learning (APL) for specific parts of the programme.
Following each study block, course members are supported by individual module tutors and online materials/resources.
Those commencing the programme at PG Certificate level complete two x 30 credit modules and may then either move to the PG Diploma stage or leave with their PG Certificate qualification. Similarly during the PG Diploma stage, course members undertake a further two 30 credit modules. During the final MA stage, participants complete a 60 credit Masters dissertation.
All participants are required to undertake the:
* Applied research in educational and professional settings (30 credit) module - at PG Diploma level/prior to the MA level dissertation
* Research methods, project planning and dissertation development (60 credit) module - as the final element for the MA
Pathway modules relating to the Higher Education award are:
* Policy practice and research in a global education context (30 credit)
* Curriculum design for flexible learning and innovation (30 credit)
