You take four compulsory modules (80 credits) which typically cover: media analysis; methodologies – researching media, culture and society; media and law; and multimedia journalism. You also choose two optional modules (40 credits) from a selection which may include: news and journalism - critical studies; professional sub-editing; television studies; public affairs; strategies and management in public relations; theoretical approaches to public relations; building a public relations campaign; public relations in the digital age.
The dissertation (60 credits) enables you to undertake independent research into a theme or issue relating to journalism.
Part-time students take 80 credits of compulsory modules in year one and 100 credits (40 credits optional modules and the 60 credits research dissertation) in year two.

Take testYou should have an upper-second-class (2.1) Honours degree, or equivalent, in the arts, humanities or social sciences. Applicants with relevant professional experience and/or journalism training will also be considered on a case-by-case basis. Applicants whose first language is not English should have a minimum of IELTS 6.5, TOEFL 90 (Internet-based) or 577 (paper-based), or equivalent.
