You take compulsory modules (40 credits) which cover: global justice and human rights; theories and approaches in the study of politics – power and democracy.
You also choose optional modules (80 credits) which allow you to explore a wide range of ethical and political issues. These modules typically include: war, terror and peace – ethical perspectives; international relations theory; the politics of global change; philosophies in human geography; human geography – concepts in action; theories and theorists of international political economy; workshop in American foreign policy making; integration in Europe; globalisation, poverty and development; global justice and climate change; the rise of China; democracy in divided societies.
You also write a dissertation (60 credits), which focuses on a topic in global justice and ethics.
Teaching is seminar based and most modules are assessed by a 4,000-word research paper on a topic chosen by the student in consultation with the module leader. Students complete a 12,000-word dissertation during the summer.
