Throughout this programme you have access to exceptional Greek, Etruscan and Roman collections, and outstanding library holdings of published and unpublished work on classical archaeology.

You take compulsory modules (60 credits) that cover: archaeological method and theory; research training; Roman archaeology; and Greek archaeology. The seminar-based modules in Greek and Roman archaeology include study trips to Athens and Rome; on-site seminars at Hadrian’s Wall are also offered.

The remaining taught part of the programme (60 credits) enables you to choose from a wide range of modules, which may include: advanced seminar in artefact studies; Byzantine archaeology; early medieval Britain and Europe; and theory and application of Geographical Information Systems (GIS). Modules in Greek, Latin and modern languages are also offered. In addition, Latin and Classical Greek language tuition is available.

All students undertake a dissertation in Greek and/or Roman archaeology (60 credits).

An upper-second-class (2.1) Honours degree, or an international equivalent, in archaeology, history or a related discipline. Applicants whose first language is not English require IELTS 6.5 (with a minimum of 7.0 in writing) or equivalent.
