You take compulsory modules in approaches to classics research and dissertation training (60 credits) and then tailor the MA more closely to your specific interests from a range of optional modules (60 credits). You can choose either one subject topic and the study of Latin and Greek, or two subject topics. The module in Latin or Greek enables you to begin or continue the study of Latin or Greek (courses range from beginners’ to advanced level).
Subject topics cover a wide range of Greek and Roman literature and culture including: divinity; rhetoric; historiography; philosophy; science and medicine; study of the classical tradition; and a number of individual classical authors. Topics in ancient history or classical archaeology may also be permitted. Finally, you research and write a 14–18,000-word dissertation (60 credits) on a topic of your choice.
Teaching consists of lectures, seminars and tutorials, and the programme is assessed by formal examination and submitted work.
