The programme is very flexible in nature and will enable you to study the periods and subjects that most interest you. Modules and dissertation supervision are available in all aspects of the political, social, and cultural history of Britain and Ireland from 800AD to the present day. Compulsory modules (60 credits) typically include: the practice of history; pathway in British history; and research skills and dissertation training.
You will also take one or two core modules in British History (20-40 credits) and choose the remaining 20-40 credits from MA modules within the school, or another School, that is of interest and relevance. Alternatively you may wish to incorporate one or more 20 credit Independent Study modules into your programme, allowing you maximum flexibility to pursue your own interests. It is also possible to study a foreign language (optionally) as part of your skills enhancement, at a range of levels from beginners to advanced.
The taught modules are delivered through a combination of lectures, seminars, individual tutorials and self-directed learning. You then complete a dissertation on any period of British history (60 credits).

You are normally required to take an English Proficiency Test.

Take testNormally an upper-second-class (2.1) Honours degree in history, or a Joint or Combined Honours degree with history. Other degree qualifications may be considered where appropriate, especially where essay-based work formed the written component of the undergraduate programme (for example, in English). Applicants whose first language is not English require IELTS 6.5 (with a minimium of 7.0 in writing) or equivalent.
