This programme focuses on efficient development of high-quality software systems and combines theory and practice. It also prepares for postgraduate studies.
Within software technology you study theories, methods and tools for efficient development of complex and high-quality software. The programme emphasises both theoretical and practical aspects of software development. It prepares you for a career as professional in software engineering, but you will also have the opportunity to pursue an academic career.
The programme gives a solid foundation in software technology and contains a number of general courses within computer science at advanced level. We present characteristics of different types of programming languages and how these can be used to handle different problems. We also present general methods and techniques to handle common problems within software development. This is supplemented by studies of mathematics and research methodology that are relevant for the subjects. The programme prepares for a future academic career by presenting and applying established research methods and practices in several courses, and ends with a thesis work.
This programme corresponds to the first year of the two-year Master Programme in Software Technology. Consequently, it is easy to proceed to that programme at any time if desired.
An outline of the programme model is provided here listing the component courses.
Year 1
* Software Technology 22.5 higher education credits, A1N*
* Computer Science 15 higher education credits , G2N*
* Scientific Methods 7.5 higher education credits, A1N*
* Degree Project, 15 higher education credits, A1E*
* Courses in the main area Computer Science.
All courses in the programme are mandatory. The sequence in which the courses are taught may vary from year to year. A number of courses have parts related to
different aspects of scientific methods.
Work Experience
The programme's students will repeatedly during their studies meet representatives
from working life. Several courses involve the participation of guest speakers. In a
couple of courses projects are carried out in conjunction with companies or other
organizations. Degree dissertation project work can be carried out in cooperation with a company.
Studies Abroad
During the second term of studies, study abroad at a foreign university is possible. Course selection is made in consultation with the programme director to ensure the validation of courses chosen within the degree programme.
Scope of the Programme
Computer science, the main subject in this study programme, is largely about developing and adapting new technologies for human use. The target audience for this area is increasingly international. Ethical and legal questions surrounding IT security are present in many of the programme's courses. Concepts like usefulness, user experience, target group adaption, availability, etc. are common to all courses. Concepts of sustainable development, gender and equal opportunities, diversity and internationalization are a natural part of the degree programme
You are normally required to take an English Proficiency Test.
Most European Universities recognise the IELTS test.
Take testBasic eligibility for second-level studies as well as special eligibility:
