MPhil supervision is normally available in the following areas:

Bacterial cell biology and biochemistry: the wide-ranging research carried out in the bacterial cell biology group includes fundamental problems such as the cell cycle, cell wall morphogenesis, metals in cells, transcription and gene regulation. We also have several leading groups working on important bacterial pathogens.

Eukaryotic cell biology and biochemistry: model organisms, from yeast and other unicellular organisms, through worms and flies to mammalian cells are utilised. A diverse range of interests, including major strengths in the cell cycle, stress responses, cell signalling and transport are studied. Important research is also focused on evolution, pathogenesis and other disease processes.
