The programme aims to provide language graduates from a wide range of academic backgrounds and professional experience with an opportunity to enhance specialist knowledge and further develop existing pedagogical expertise. The programme is appropriate for both experienced teachers who wish to develop further their specialist knowledge of the language domain, and for those with no prior teaching experience who are seeking an end-on higher degree in the specialist language area. One of the key - and uniquely distinctive - features of the programme is that it draws on expertise from three separate but related language areas, namely English (L1), Modern Foreign Languages (L2) and TESOL.
The programme will enable participants to: * demonstrate in-depth theoretical knowledge in a range of approaches to research in language; * become educational innovators and informed practitioners in the meaningful and effective use of these approaches to enhance learning; * critically engage with key theories of learning and assess how they impact on learning in language; * show a critical awareness of the ways in which engagement with linguistic and literary theories and theories of culture impact on and alter modes of interaction and communication within the learning context; * demonstrate an awareness of a range of literacies across a range of linguistic contexts; * develop awareness of the importance of continuing professional development in the field and the ability and confidence to continue to pursue further academic, professional and technical expertise in the language area.
You will be taught through lectures, tutorial sessions and classroom-related activities, such as lesson observation and microteaching. Assessment is by written assignments, examination and project work. You will undertake a supervised project and a dissertation of approximately 15,000 words.
You are normally required to take an English Proficiency Test.
Most European Universities recognise the IELTS test.
