This programme analyses public health systems around the world and compares how they respond to the challenge of reducing health inequalities. It examines the role of the state in funding and providing healthcare services and the impact on it of recent reform, evaluates the impact of public private partnerships (PPPs) on public service goals, and addresses the ways in which health systems can be strengthened to advance global health objectives.
The programme provides a detailed examination of the concepts of partnerships, offers methods for evaluating them and examines the basic principles of health system funding and provision. It evaluates PPPs from a public health perspective and accounts for the organisational changes in healthcare provision accompanying PPPs.
