Location of The University of Edinburgh

The programme has been developed in response to the introduction of the Adult Protection and Support (Scotland) Act 2007 that foregrounds within contemporary professional practice and priorities, the importance of working with adults who are at risk of harm.

The programme is intended for experienced practitioners (minimum 2 years post-qualifying experience) from a range of relevant agencies providing services to adults at risk of harm.

Learning Outcomes You will develop confidence and competence within the complex field of adult protection in order to practice autonomously and collaboratively with individuals from a variety of professional backgrounds.

You will acquire up-to-date knowledge of theory, policy and practice in relation to adults who may be at risk or pose a risk within society in order to assume leadership and professional development roles in your workplace


Contents

The MSc comprises120 credits of taught courses and a 60-credit dissertation; students may choose to exit at any point and receive either the Postgraduate Certificate (60 credits) or Diploma (60 credits) in Advanced Social Work Studies)

* The modular structure for the PG Certificate and the Diploma consists of 12 taught days and 8 online learning days over 2 semesters for each qualification;
* the Masters dissertation is 15,000 words long produced over 6 months with supervision
* Each module is assessed at level 11 through a variety of practice focused assignments

You are normally required to take an English Proficiency Test.

A good first degree in an appropriate subject, equivalent to a UK 2:1.

English Language Requirements

* IELTS 6.5 (with 6.0 in each section)
* TOEFL 580 (with 55 in each section and 4.0 in TWE)
* TOEFL 237 in CBT (with 21 in each section)
* TOEFL-iBT 92 (with at least 20 in each section)
* CPE Grade B or higher
* CAE Grade A
