The aim of the programme is to provide advanced training for medical and science graduates, and those in related industrial, policy and healthcare fields, in the rapidly evolving field of translational medicine and associated research. This has relevance to all sectors engaged in medical and biomedical research, spanning clinical medicine to drug discovery. It will highlight the interdependence of medical, scientific, regulatory and societal components required in modern translational research and medicine.
The programme will provide participants with an in-depth understanding of the rationale and impact of translational medicine and appreciation of its increasingly important role to medical research, the drug-development industry and regulatory sectors. Participants will gain the capacity to deploy the multidisciplinary tools central to translational medicine, equipping them to engage further in this rapidly evolving field. The broad goals of the initial Certificate phase will also provide a foundation for focused investigation and training in the Diploma and MSc in Translational Medicine.
Students who follow this programme will be equipped to:
* demonstrate how modern biomedical research is increasingly impacting on all facets of clinical and laboratory medicine;
* deliver a thorough understanding of the core clinical, physiological, molecular, policy and societal issues defining translational medicine;
* define the inter-relationship between medical, scientific, regulatory and societal issues inherent in translational medicine and research;
* provide examples of the role of translational medicine in the fundamental understanding, treatment and diagnosis of disease;
* identify the role of translational medicine in drug discovery, biotech and pharmaceutical industries.
The programme is delivered using an innovative blend of online learning opportunities supported by online learning environments. The programme is designed in such a way that, with access to the internet, you will be able to study at the times and in the places that suit you best. The programme will involve mixed teaching approaches, including independent study and reflection, as well as online discussion and group project work.
