Programme Description

This is a new Master´s degree for aircraft maintenance professionals in partnership with A J Walter Aviation - global leaders in the supply, repair and lease of commercial spare parts.

The MSc in Aircraft Maintenance Management is for experienced aviation industry personnel who wish to enhance their career progression in the maintenance management field. This course will help them improve their knowledge of the complex disciplines required to enable full understanding of the various technical, operational and financial pressures impacting on flight operations.

Graduates will be prepared for positions of responsibility within airlines and specialist operators, such as police and search and rescue helicopters, maintenance and repair organisations, aviation authorities and defence forces.

Contents

The course consists of a number of independent modules, each of which runs over three days. All students must attend and pass one module (free of charge) as an introduction before they are accepted onto the course. To qualify for an MSc, a student needs to complete a further eight taught modules and successfully complete a major project of relevance to their future career. Students who complete the taught part of the course only can be awarded a Postgraduate Diploma (intro module + 8 more) or a Postgraduate Certificate (intro module + 4 more).

Modules are held regularly in London, Dubai and Cologne and elsewhere on an occasional basis. Some of the modules are held in collaboration with Lufthansa Technical Training and students can choose, with Programme Director's approval, some of their modules as an Elective Module on the AMM programme. This MSc in Aircraft Maintenance Management follows the format of the well-established MSc Air Transport Management and MSc Air Safety Management.

Students are assessed through coursework, examinations and a final dissertation. The pass mark is 50 percent in each case. Students attaining an average mark of 65% for both modules and dissertation will be passed with Merit. Those achieving 70% will be passed with Distinction.

You are normally required to take an English Proficiency Test if you come from a non-English speaking country.

Most European Universities recognise the IELTS test.

Requirements

The normal requirement is Category B or C Aircraft Maintenance Engineer´s Licence or military equivalent, or a first degree (minimum 2.1) in an appropriate subject. All students must have relevant aviation work experience at professional level, normally for a minimum of two years.

Applicants who satisfy the basic admissions requirements are invited to attend a free-of-charge introductory module from the list of the course modules. Final acceptance on to the course follows after satisfactory completion of this module.

English Language Requirement

For those students whose first language is not English, the following qualifications are also required:
