The MSc Energy and Environmental Technology and Economics has been designed to develop skills in the cost-effective management of energy resources and in managing commercial and industrial development within tight environmental constraints.
Teaching and Assessment The programme teaching is organised into modules comprising three consecutive day courses taken at a rate of one a month or so. This format makes the programme attractive to those who wish to study part time while retaining full-time jobs.
Full-time students are also welcomed and will be expected to devote a significant part of their non-taught hours to project work as well as private study. Much support is given to students, part time and full time, with their preparation for the modules and in their project work.
The programme has strong links with industry and commerce and involves many visiting lecturers who hold senior positions in their fields.
Aims
To consider the basic principles of emissions trading, globally, the opportunities for UK business and the City of London.
Learning Outcomes
Participants will gain knowledge of National and International policies governing emissions trading. They will also become familiar with the market mechanisms for trading permits for carbon and other emissions.

Career Prospects
The course provides economic and market-based skills relevant to carbon trading and technical and engineering skills related to energy generation and management. With strong industry links, it provides students from economic, management and engineering backgrounds with a firm basis for career development.
Course Content
It addresses the implementation of energy management systems and technologies including renewables. Issues involved in the energy supply side are covered as well as environmental aspects arising from the use of fuels for industrial and transport purposes.
Professional accreditation: The course is accredited by the Energy Institute and fulfils the learning requirement for Chartered Engineer status.
Course content: The course is organised into modules which are taught over a three day period, at a rate of one module a month.

Completion of eight modules and examinations will lead to the award of a Postgraduate Diploma. The completion of modules, examinations and a dissertation will lead to the award of a Masters degree.
