As a result of the NHS change agenda, Allied Health Professionals (AHPs) are increasingly being required to adopt new roles and responsibilities, and to practice in new ways which cross professional and organisational boundaries. Despite their numbers, the importance of AHPs´ contribution to health service provision remains under-recognised by comparison with nursing and medicine, and few AHPs have been enabled to undertake leadership roles beyond their immediate services.
This is the first course anywhere in the UK designed to meet these needs. It is a cross-professional, post-experience course that will equip AHPs with the skills and knowledge they require as clinical leaders, capable of acting as change agents in the processes of professional and service delivery transformation. It is aimed both at established professionals currently occupying AHP leadership and management positions, including consultant posts, and at others looking to move into such roles.
In addition to acquiring the concepts and analytical tools required to reflect critically on your current practice and the organisation in which you work, you will gain access to a network of senior professionals via associate membership of City´s Centre for Allied Health Professions Research, plus opportunities for continuing mentorship, advice and consultancy beyond the duration of the programme.
The course has been developed in close consultation with, and with the enthusiastic encouragement of, major external stakeholders in the Department of Health and the NHS. It is informed by close and detailed analysis of recent and likely future strategic developments affecting the NHS in general and the AHPs in particular, and builds on City´s proven track record in providing health management education and training.
