Location of City University London

The course will equip you with the skills, knowledge and capabilities to deliver the National Service Frameworks for Mental Health.

The MSc is recognised by the General Social Care Council (GSCC) for the Higher Specialist/Advanced Award in Social Work. City University London is one of the Higher Education Institute Members of the National Primary Mental Health Worker Training Development Group.

Teaching and Assessment Teaching Teaching and learning involve lecture sessions, workshops, small group activities and discussions.

Assessment Modules are assessed through coursework, reflective practice and the dissertation.

Career Prospects As a graduate you will have gained knowledge and understanding of interprofessional practice to enable you to work effectively and collaboratively across professional agencies and boundaries. Previous students have gone on to secure influential roles within the professional areas of mental health and social care, the voluntary sector and health policy and management.


Contents

Course Content It is targeted at practitioners from a wide range of backgrounds who are responsible for provision of mental health services.

Course Structure Core modules:

* Partnership in practice
* Research methods

Route modules:

* Work-based learning
* Elective placement
* Changing ideas and practice in mental health care
* Service users and carers
* Promoting social inclusion and recovery in mental health
* Risk assessment and decision making in mental health

Optional modules:

* Evidence-based Health and Social Care or
* any module from the Society, Violence and Practice or Child and Adolescent Mental Health routes

When you have successfully completed the eight taught modules to achieve 120 credits plus your dissertation, you will qualify for a full Masters degree, or complete eight taught modules to achieve 120 credits and qualify for a postgraduate diploma.

IELTS

You are normally required to take an English Proficiency Test.

Most European Universities recognise the IELTS test.

* A first degree is not required
* Applications are welcomed from a wide range of backgrounds
* Consideration will be given if you can demonstrate your experience or professional qualifications of mental health and social care. You must also demonstrate your ability to study at Masters level
* All applicants will be expected to attend an interview
* Relevant CRB requirements for working with vulnerable adults.

Other Suitable Qualifications
Students for interprofessional practice come from a variety of sectors, including healthcare, education, emergency services, police, social care, nursing or the voluntary sector.

The course is appropriate if you are currently responsible for the provision of mental health services
