The course enables you to deepen your understanding of the context of childbirth and current issues in midwifery practice. It supports the development, evaluation and implementation of evidence-based practice and policy.
Teaching and Assessment
Teaching -Teaching and learning strategies includes lecture sessions, workshops, self directed learning, small group activities as well as discussions and debates.
Assessment - Modules are assessed through a combination of group work, written coursework and OSCE examination. All assessments must be focused on issues in midwifery practice, management, research or education.
Career Prospects
The course will increase the depth and breadth of your knowledge of midwifery practice and policy and consolidate such skills as critical appraisal, strategic planning and evaluation.
It will provide you with a foundation for undertaking posts that involve staff leadership, practice development and policy formulation. In addition, it sets the basis for further development at Doctorate/PhD level.
Course Content
The range of modules offers great flexibility, so you can also select combinations of modules geared towards specialised areas of interest such as management or public health. You may be able to select modules offered within the School of Community and Health Sciences.
It will enable and encour1age critical thinking; the application of advanced skills; information and knowledge management for the promotion of health and well-being of childbearing women and their families.
A wide range of university wide optional modules enable you to devise a programme addressing your own development needs in the light of the NHS Knowledge and Skills Framework.
You may also study individual modules within the course for continuing professional development.

When you have successfully completed the modules plus a dissertation you will qualify for a full Masters degree and be awarded an MSc in Midwifery. If you complete the modules without the dissertation you will be eligible for a postgraduate diploma in Midwifery.
You are normally required to take an English Proficiency Test.
Most European Universities recognise the IELTS test.
Take test* Preferably a relevant upper second class honours degree or equivalent
* You may be considered if you do not hold a relevant fi rst degree, but will be required to: - Successfully complete a research module at level three, prior to commencing Masters level study. (Up to 30 level three credits may be used towards accumulation of credits for the Masters award).
* Write an admission essay
* Present a portfolio of evidence which reflects capability at L3/M level.

Who should apply?
* You should be a qualified midwife with a minimum of one year's experience
* A work placement is not required for the MSc Midwifery
* If you choose clinical modules you must be registered with the NMC and be working clinically within a healthcare setting.
