The course allows you the greatest possible flexibility in developing your specialist skills and knowledge as a practitioner in adult or children's nursing.

Teaching and Assessment Teaching

A blended approach to learning and teaching is adopted including university-based taught modules; e-learning and work-based learning.

Assessment

Assessments are varied to meet the practice and academic challenges of a Masters level programme, while recognising the need for motivating, realistic and relevant activity. Assessment includes essays; objective structured clinical examinations; practicebased assessments and seminar presentations with supporting papers.

Placements You do not need to have a work placement, but are expected to apply principles to practice in the assessments. Career Prospects The course prepares you for nurse manager and clinical leadership roles. If you are a nurse and want to prepare for an advanced practice role you can choose either the MSc Nursing or the MSc Nursing (Advanced Nursing Practice).

Course Content The course consists of eight modules and a dissertation.

The aim is to give you the opportunity to create a challenging and rewarding Masters course tailored to your personal development needs. Compulsory modules are kept to a minimum, so you can choose from a wide range depending on your personal goals. You may also study individual modules within the course for continued professional development.

Who should apply The course is suitable for nurses working in senior positions or those currently preparing for nurse practitioner, care manager, nurse consultant or clinical leadership roles.

* Advancing nursing knowledge
* Research methods

Long term conditions core modules: * Research methods 1 (introductory)
* Philosophy and politics of primary healthcare
* Clinical practice (a portfolio, practice-based module)
* Chronic disease management
* Long term conditions
* Clinical assessment in Primary Care

Optional modules: * Qualitative research
* Leadership for practice and service delivery
* Medicines management
* Psychology at work
* Evidence-based health and social care

If you have a specific related area of interest, you may be able to select modules offered within the School of Community and Health Sciences.
When you have successfully completed the taught modules plus your dissertation, you will qualify for a full Masters degree, or complete the taught modules and qualify for a postgraduate diploma.

IELTS

You are normally required to take an English Proficiency Test.

Most European Universities recognise the IELTS test.

* Registration as a nurse, normally with two years' experience
* If you want to take clinical modules you must be registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Council and working within a healthcare setting
* A second class honours degree
* If you do not have a degree you will be considered, but may have to demonstrate an ability to study at degree level
