The aim of the course is to provide you with the skills and knowledge to apply critical appraisal to day-to-day practice and promote reflective and evidence-based practice. The course is accredited by the College of Radiographers.
Modules from the course can also be taken on a stand-alone basis for continuing professional development purposes. Modules can then be accumulated to work towards a Postgrad Certificate, Diploma or MSc qualification.
The course is suitable for you if you are working in radiotherapy and wish to extend your knowledge and research skills. It will also be useful if you are working towards advanced practice.
Teaching and Assessment Teaching
Teaching methods may include lectures, tutorials, seminars, demonstrations, workshops and problem-solving sessions.
It is emphasised that students are expected to undertake self-directed learning/study in addition to the mainstream course work.
Assessment
Assessment methods include examinations, essays, oral and poster presentation, case studies, e-learning tasks, clinical assessments and clinical portfolios.
Placements The work placement must be for at least three days a week (or equivalent) and continue for the duration of the course.
Career Prospects The course can help to widen employment opportunities with the possibility of becoming a superintendent radiographer, manager or a visiting lecturer.
A number of previous students are now undertaking clinical practice previously carried out by medical staff.

Course Content Modules are offered either through University-based teaching (block release) or distance learning supported by e-learning. You may also study individual modules within the course for continued professional development.
Course Structure The course is modular, consisting of some compulsory modules and a range of optional modules. Modules are offered on a block release or distance learning basis.
You will be expected to continue your clinical practice while undertaking your postgraduate study.
The postgraduate awards are determined by the number of credits gained by an individual student. The length of the course is dependent on the number of credits gained and this is determined by the specific modules on offer each term and the students module choice. Maximum registration period is 5 years.

* RCM011 Research Methods (15 credits)
* RCM005 Evidence Based Practice (15 credits)
* RCM010 Student Negotiate Module 1 (15 credits)
* RCM126 Student Negotiated Module 2 (30 credits)
Postgraduate Diploma ~ 120 Credits * Minimum length of programme: 2 years
Students MUST undertake the following:
* RCM011 Research Methods (15 credits) COMPULSORY
Plus one of the following:
* RCM005 Evidence Based Practice (15 credits)
* RCM010 Student Negotiate Module 1 (15 credits)
* RCM126 Student Negotiated Module 2 (30 credits)
Students can select from the module pool described in the Certificate section
(above) to achieve additional credits for the Diploma.
MSc ~ 180 Credits (including dissertation of 60 credits) * Minimum length of programme: 3 years
Diploma (above) plus: RCM012 Dissertation (60 credits)
You are normally required to take an English Proficiency Test.
Most European Universities recognise the IELTS test.
Take test* A minimum of an Honours Degree in Radiography (or other relevant subject) from an approved British University or CNAA
* Other qualifications which may be deemed equivalent to the above eg: Diploma of the College of Radiographers or qualifications held by midwives, medical technical officers etc.
* Appropriate international qualifications in radiography may be considered where parity with UK programmes can be evidenced
* Normally you should have a minimum of one year's clinical experience in radiotherapy before starting the programme, and you should continue to practise for its duration
* If you want to undertake the optional work-based learning (expert/ specialist practice) module you will be required to have the appropriate scope of practice
* If you are an international applicant, you need to be able to secure a clinical placement for the duration of your intended course of study.
