Our MA programmes offer the opportunity for you to undertake advanced study of films from different periods and international contexts. As a postgraduate student you will gain a strong methodological grounding in research, and a fluency in a variety of theoretical and historical approaches to cinema. You will benefit from highly qualified and experienced academic staff with a commitment to research-led teaching, and you will work closely with staff on your own research. Our MA in Film Studies and MA in English: Film Studies Pathway offer two different ways of studying film.
The MA in Film Studies comprises of four film modules and allows students to specialise in the study of cinema. The programme provides a theoretical understanding of the social and historical importance of film within the context of European and World cinema. You will complete modules to the value of 120 credits including three core modules and one optional module along with a dissertation worth 60 credits.
By joining the MA you will become part of a vibrant postgraduate community including both MA and PhD students. You will also be encouraged to participate in the activities of the Centre for Research into Film Studies, which runs fortnightly research seminars for staff, students and visiting speakers.
