We are the only UK institution to offer an MEd in Creative Arts with an integrated approach to the theory and practice of four art forms (drama, music, dance and visual art), also providing the opportunity to specialise in one of these subject areas.

Intended for qualified teachers, lecturers, administrators and arts graduates with a professional interest in arts education, based in the UK or overseas, the programme focuses on the theory, policy and practice of arts and creativity in formal education and informal learning contexts.

Taught by internationally-recognised researchers who contribute towards publications in their specialist fields, the MEd provides an ideal grounding for PhD research as well being suited for those wishing to develop their practical artistic skills and theoretical understanding.

In particular, emphasis is laid on the relationship of the arts to each other and to the school curriculum as a whole. The programme also examine the educational use of the arts to meet special needs and the changing role of arts education in a multicultural society.

Much of the programme is based on seminars, lectures and studio work, but you will also be given many opportunities to visit arts venues and educational settings including schools, regional theatres, galleries and arts complexes, as well as field trips to centres such as the Eden Project and the Tate at St Ives in Cornwall.
